In the year 2016, the word “politics” has evolved into more than just a term to describe the political affairs of our nation. It represents a process that invites parody from the media. This election has provided entertainment, not only for the American people but for every nation in the world. In recent weeks, we have observed the undeniably irrational behavior of Donald Trump from a video taken in 2006. The secrecy and withholding of facts surrounding presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s email scandal still continues to unfold. Even Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson’s uncanny, strange behavior in almost every interview has become a topic for discussion.

Donald J. Trump, a successful billionaire businessman and former television producer, is the single embodiment of the notion that money can buy you anything, including the presidential nomination. Nevertheless, Donald has impressed some voters and lawmakers with his plan to eliminate illegal immigration in the United States through his quest to build “The Wall.” Let’s examine the following quote from Donald Trump himself to help get a better understanding of his immigration policies: “I will build a great wall — and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me — and I’ll build them very inexpensively. I will build a great, great wall on our southern border, and I will make Mexico pay for that wall. Mark my words.

Mark. My. Words. Aside from possibly tainting foreign relations with Mexico, Donald Trump’s ignorance and lack of censorship provides insight as to how he will lead our country. Since the founding of our nation, the United States has been led by favorable, respectable leaders, revered for their professionalism while in office, such as Franklin D. Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan. Some argue that Donald Trump is a genuine man who is capable of working for the common people. They point to past acts of humanitarianism, such as his participation in organizations like the Donald J. Trump Foundation and the Celebrity Apprentice charities. Then again, this is the same man that blatantly condoned the violation of women by stating, Grab them by the p***y. You can do anything.” As Americans, it is crucial that we reflect upon the past and current actions of our presidential candidates. It is important to question their morality before we make the decision to support them. If Donald Trump passes this test in your books, then by all means, embrace your vote!

By the end of 2016, we may have the 1st “First Gentleman”, or “First Dude” as Bill Clinton would call it, in office. Hillary Clinton is quite the veteran when it comes to working in the nation’s capital. Amongst many other accomplishments, she has served as First Lady of the United States, U.S. Senator, and United States Secretary of State. Hillary is also a longtime advocate for women’s rights, as evidenced by her historical women’s rights are human rights quote at the UN Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995. To be elected as the first woman president would be quite the honor. Therefore, we must carefully determine whether or not Hillary is deserving of such a prestigious role. History repeats itself, and if such is the case with Hillary, the United States may be in for quite some trouble if she wins the election.

Over the past year, the terms “Hillary” and “scandal” have become synonymous with one another. On September 11, 2012, Islamist militants attacked a US diplomatic base in Benghazi, leaving John Christopher Stevens, a US ambassador to Libya, and three other Americans dead. It was later revealed that the state department, led by Hillary Clinton at the time, had rejected appeals for additional security at the consulate where the attack took place. As if this scandal wasn’t a lesson to learn from, new reports have emerged surrounding the candidate. Hillary is yet again under scrutiny as the State Department released another round of emails taken from Clinton’s private server last Friday. As an American citizen, it is extremely unsettling to hear that your potential 45th president is under investigation by the FBI.  Let us just hope that if she is elected, Hillary will be able to focus on the issues facing our country – instead of constantly defending her own actions.

Although both candidates have visible flaws, one may also applaud them for their accomplishments. They have shown excellence in their respective fields and possess certain qualifications that are unique from one another. Nevertheless, the past year has been filled with campaign schemes from each party to strategically defame the opposing candidate. This election may go down as the greatest game of media tug of war the world has ever seen.

November 8th is only a two days away. It is our civic duty to research and know the facts regarding each presidential candidate, to ensure that we don’t a cast a vote we might regret. The fate of our country lies in our hands.
